One of the most important and well-known initiatives of the Al Baraka Forum for Islamic Economics, the Al Baraka Symposium on Islamic Economics was established in 1981, as part of a long history of giving to serve the knowledge infrastructure of Islamic economics. The renowned businessman Sheikh Saleh Abdullah Kamel (1941-2020), may God have mercy on him and grant him abundant reward, founded the Al Baraka Symposium, planted its seed, and personally nurtured and watered it for forty years. He is one of the most important pioneers of Islamic economics.
The symposium has been, since its inception, a legal and economic forum, representing the cornerstone in developing Islamic economic work from both the jurisprudential and technical aspects. Some emerging economic issues - or those with an economic dimension - are presented for discussion and opinions are expressed on them from the legal and technical perspective by a group of senior scholars and jurists known at the Islamic and international levels, with the participation of experts in the field of money, business, economics and Islamic finance, with the aim of arriving at fatwas and recommendations that enrich the work. Islamic economics - despite its diverse fields - offers effective solutions to the dilemmas it faces.

About the Founder: Sheikh Saleh Abdullah Kamel (may God have mercy on him) Sheikh Saleh Abdullah Kamel (1941–2020) is considered one of the most prominent pioneers of Islamic economics in the modern era and the founder of the Al Baraka Symposium on Islamic Economics, which was launched in 1983 as a pioneering intellectual platform bringing together scholars and experts from around the world to develop Sharia-compliant financial solutions. Sheikh Saleh Kamel dedicated his life to serving the Islamic economy. He founded the Dallah Al Baraka Group, one of the first financial and commercial institutions to practically adopt Islamic finance models. Through this group, he contributed to the establishment of several Islamic banks and financial institutions inside and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His thought was distinguished by its integration of Sharia principles with a realistic economic vision. He believed that Islamic finance was not only an alternative, but also a civilizational and moral necessity for building a just, humane economy. He left a vast scholarly and institutional legacy, the most prominent manifestation of which is the continuation of the Al Baraka Symposium for decades, as an annual reference for formulating concepts, developing applications, and enhancing integration between financial jurisprudence and market reality.
